Abstract

This course is designed to support TVET personnel in selecting teaching methods that will lead to requested learning outcomes. The application of effective teaching methods is a key factor for the learning process and can be targeted to the acquisition of intended competencies. In this course, steps to apply these methods are described and practised so that participants are enabled to manage and quality assure learning processes, and to take important decisions towards the quality of a student’s learning.

Learning objectives

On completion of the training, participants  

  • are able to explain have understood the shift from receptive, passive learning and teaching methods to action oriented self-reliant approaches  
  • can select and apply modern instructional methods according to different competence levels (e.g. project-based & problem-solving methods, case studies) Use of multidisciplinary learning approaches related to student learning styles 
  • are able to determine the effective use of (digital) media  
  • use of different learning methods for development of different competence levels 
  • can implementation suitable assessment methods

  • Definitions/understanding of terms like didactic, teaching method, media, instruments 
  • Relevance of different approaches for quality development 
  • Different quality approaches related to different learning environments 
  • Learning approaches tailored to different learning situations 
  • Quality checklist related to the selected approach 
  • Quality management and development processes, steps and areas 
  • Quality assessment and development tools

Virtual format implemented with the following methods: 

  • Synchronous and asynchronous online seminar

Prerequisites

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS  

  • At least 1 year experience in TVET  
  • Basic ICT skills  

For in-depth knowledge on modern teaching and learning methods we recommend Course 3 “Action-Oriented and Student-Centered Teaching and Learning”.
