LE-007.01 Digital Transformation for Sustainable Economic Development - For Development Practitioners (planned 22. April - 27. May 2026)

Digitalisation is reshaping the way people live, learn, and work, impacting business models, competition, and global production networks. It has fundamentally changed the global economy and will continue to do so in the upcoming years. Understanding the implications, opportunities, and risks of digitalisation for sustainable economic development is crucial to our work as development practitioners. Not least, because digitalisation can make a key contribution to the guiding principle of a socio-ecological transformation of the economy.

The training ‘Digital Transformation for Sustainable Economic Development’ offers you an excellent introduction to this field. It has been jointly developed by GIZ’s Competence Centre for Economic Policy and Private Sector Development, the Sector Project Sustainable Economic Policy, colleagues from the Assets for Asia sector network as well as digitalisation experts and economists from outside GIZ. It therefore provides a unique combination of in-depth expert knowledge, resources, and practical examples specific to the context of international cooperation. A significant part of the program is centred around self-study, empowering you to take charge of your learning by exploring topics independently and at your own pace.

The first two modules of this online course serve as an introduction and theoretical foundation on key aspects of the digital transformation of the economy – taking into account both opportunities and risks. Modules three and four deepen this knowledge in two specific topical areas (Just Transition & Policymaking) with practical examples and the introduction of relevant tools and instruments. The training is designed to encourage participants to actively share their knowledge and learn from the discussions and experiences within the group.
